A friend emailed last night.
He wanted me to look at his website.
So I did.
He wanted to know if I thought he could make money selling a widget online.
And maybe he can.
After all, he built a terrific looking website.
All the bells and whistles.
But it reminded me of a client I had several years ago.
This client also had a pretty website.
But no traffic.
And he wondered why he wasn't getting any inquiries.
"How do you get traffic to your site?" I asked my client 7 years ago.
"I don't" he responded. "I thought you just built a website and people inquired".
"Not exactly" I explained. "It can be that simple but only if people actually find your website."
So I did some research and created a Google Adwords campaign for him.
Within 20 minute he was getting traffic. Within 24 hours he had his first inquiry.
And those inquiries haven't stopped coming for the past seven years.
Anyway, back to my friend who emailed last night.
Can he make money selling his widget online?
Here's what I told him:
Frankly, this is not a question for me to answer.
But let me ask you ...
Are people searching online for a product like this?
If so, how many monthly searches can you expect?
How much will it cost to pay for clicks on Google?
How many clicks will you need to make 1 sale?
Is the click cost justifiable based on the profit margin built into your product?
Get answers to these questions and you'll know if you can make money selling your widget online.
If you're wondering if you can make money with your product or service online perhaps these questions will help you too.
Hope this helps.
